Receiving a "Sound Bath" in actual water is a complete different experience from your usual sound bath! Not saying than one is better than the other. as they each have their own particularities, and both are totally worth a try!...
The Sound Journey most people are used to are generally performed with people lying on the ground. It is mostly a passive affair - as in having a conscious deep listening experience, while totally relaxing and letting go. Nothing else than your sense of hearing is normally triggered (except if you feel uou need to release something through body movement for example).
A Sound Bath in Water is activating many more senses;
-The mandala shapes created at the surface of the water when tapping the singing bowls, which is a delight to look at (sight);
-The powerful vibrations felt through the water-medium, into the skin and right through the body (touch);
-The tiny splashes of water on the face that occurs when a singing bowl is tapped a few powerful times (touch);
-The water and the outdoor environment has smells (well a chlorinated pool too but not the best ;) (smell);
-If the water is from a very clean stream, you could even taste it (just a drop even), but it is rare nowadays to find nowadays, sadly... (taste).
-Even the sense of Hearing has a lot more components than in a 'land-grounded' sound bath. Because the ears can be in or out of the water (which totally changes the 'same' sounds!), because the player can alter the sound of one instrument by immersing it more or less in the water while playing, and because the sounds from one instrument carries the sound so differently than another!
Some flute sounds out of the water are still loud enough to be heard underwater, while some very loud (too loud) chimes are so peaceful and out-of-space when played and heard inside the water...
Obviously the type of 'Water Space' makes a difference too, depending on how safe we feel in it, how beautiful it is, how transparent the water is, how is our personal preference or memories with it...
Even from just a hearing perspective, it's totally different!... A running stream or a near-by waterfall affects massivley the underwater soundscape, for example. Those blue spaces provides loads of health benefits due to the ultrasounds they produce, but they also somehow make the healing sounds we play a bit more dull and less directed, than in a quiet swimming pool...
Soundcapes out of the water are also super important when in Nature! The more ecodiversity, the better the positive benefits!
Here are some additional health benefits it has compared to a normal Sound Healing:
Conductivity: Water is a better conductor of sound vibrations compared to air, allowing the sound waves to travel more efficiently through the body and to deepen the impact and potency of the healing vibrations.
Immersive experience: The combination of sound vibrations and the sensory experience of being in water can enhance relaxation and emotional release.
Cleansing properties: Water is often associated with cleansing and purification, therefore facilitating emotional and energetic cleansing and promoting a sense of renewal and rejuvenation that may not be as pronounced in a normal sound bath.
Emotional release: Water is linked to emotions and can help individuals tap into and release deep-seated emotional patterns. Sound healing in water may facilitate emotional release and provide a cathartic experience that differs from a normal sound bath.
Balancing energy centers and electromagnetic field: Water is connected with the 2nd chakra, which is linked with emotional release and letting go. Sound healing in water can also help align and balance all energy centers more effectively, promoting overall harmony and well-being.
Hydrostatic pressure and flotation: This create compression on internal organs and tissues, stimulating blood circulation. A sensation of envelopment, lightness, body awareness, and internal gymnastics is generated.
Mechanical factors and friction: It is the resistance of water to movement, which allows a deep body massage, releasing toxins and oxygenating the tissues, strengthening muscles and joints.
Chemical factors in natural Wild Blue Spaces: Whether in the ocean, a shallow stream, a natural pool, or close by a waterfall, wild water carries a lot of additional potent benefits: minerals and nutrients, negative ions, etc. Naturally present in water, through an osmotic effect, they nourish our cells, promoting the exchange of nutrients. An electrical conduction also comes into play, as we become in direct contact with the earth's magnetic field in water. This allows a transfer of electrons that act in our body as powerful antioxidants, improving the heart rate and reducing the levels of inflammation in the body. Different types of Blue Space have their own specific benefits as well: salt and conduction in the sea (plus presence of iodine and other minerals), hydrotherapy (with powerful streams and waterfalls), temperature of the water, etc.
In summary, water sound healing offers a unique and immersive healing experience that leverages the conductivity and properties of water to deepen emotional release, and overall well-being in ways that may not be as pronounced in a conventional sound bath. Although it is enhancing the relaxing effects, a sound bath in water can also be an excuse for super fun interactive activities!!!
